Gabe Long Memorial Scholarship Fund Overview

The Newnan-Coweta Board of REALTORS® hosts the annual Gabe Long Memorial Golf Tournament to fund scholarships for local high school seniors. The golf tournament is held honor of local REALTOR® Gabe Long. The Gabe Long Memorial Scholarship Fund awards six $1,000 scholarships annually to high school seniors in the Coweta County school district. Each participating high school—East Coweta High, Northgate High, and Newnan High—will select two scholarship recipients. In addition, starting in 2025, the scholarship will also be available to two seniors attending private, homeschool, or online schools, for a total of eight recipients.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • High School Seniors: Two students from each participating public high school and two from private, homeschool or alternative learning programs that reside in Coweta County.
  • GPA Requirement: Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 2.0 (on a 4.0 scale).

Application Components:

To apply for the scholarship, students must submit the following:

  • A completed scholarship application form
  • A transcript of completed courses
  • Two letters of recommendation:
    • One from a school representative (teacher, counselor, or academic advisor)
    • One from an outside source (employer, mentor, community leader, coach, etc.)
  • A personal essay outlining educational and career goals, achievements, leadership experiences, community involvement, challenges overcome, and how this scholarship will support your aspirations (250-500 words)

Scholarship Details:

  • Amount: Each scholarship is $1,000 and is non-renewable.
  • Usage of Funds: The scholarship can be applied towards fees, books, tuition, and/or room and board at an accredited post-secondary institution.
  • Deadline: The deadline to submit applications is April 1st, 2025.

Award Presentation:

  • Scholarships will be presented at the Awards Ceremony of the recipient’s school.
  • Recipients are encouraged to attend the Newnan-Coweta Board’s May Membership Meeting for a scholarship presentation if possible.

Scholarships will be awarded without regard to race, gender, creed, religion, age, national origin, or disability.

Additional Notes:

Qualified applicants may be required to attend a personal interview if deemed necessary.
